Safety is subjective.
When I walk through this pedestrian tunnel I have an unnerving sensation, as though something has gone wrong, or is about to. The white paint and overly bright light are meant to banish any trace of the criminal or criminality (even if the trace is as harmless as a bit of graffiti). Yet the measures somehow have the opposite effect. I feel that I am about to be interrogated. The shadows just beyond the end of the tunnel creep me out, too.
