Ellen’s Oscar selfie in the making

Ellen's Oscar selfie in the making
I take a lot of photographs while watching television, whether it’s the Olympics, the Academy Awards, or the State of the Union.  I took over a hundred pictures while watching the Oscars on Sunday.  This was my best photograph.

I love how Ellen DeGeneres tapped into the zeitgeist of our time, creating a popular photographic image that plays on our collective narcissism, love of celebrities, and near-universal mania for selfies.

Did you take any photographs of the Oscars?  If so, I would love to see them!

(In case you missed the Oscars, here is a clip of Ellen DeGeneres getting Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Channing Tatum, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, and others in the audience to pose.)  Ellen knew what she was about, producing an image that became the most retweeted in history (i.e., in Twitter’s short history).  If you haven’t seen it, you can see the original Oscar selfie that Ellen tweeted here.

Give the lady credit for multi-tasking.  She crashing Twitter while unflappably hosting a show being viewed live by 43.7 million people.

Entertainment Weekly reports that there’s a site where you can insert yourself into Ellen’s now-famous picture.
