The London Guarantee and Accident Building, one of Chicago’s most recognizable landmarks, is being redeveloped. The massive old building is more or less vacant, and crews are at work all over the exterior, which sports gaping holes where old windows and damaged stone have been removed. More
I am waiting at the bus stop on the way to the dentist. I am directly opposite the old Marquette Building, with its amazing brickwork (if can you call it that when all the bricks are unique to the building itself) and its distinguished old bronze story-boards, with their glorious patina of greenish-grey. I love it when the Board of Trade Building looks grand and glorious, when it’s wreathed in fog and looks as though Batman could be capering about on its heights. A night like this, and the tower evokes the whole era that it was made in, when the Thin Man was in and the money flowed.
