On Tuesdays, the farmers’ market is downtown in the Federal Plaza. I tend to forget about it, but this morning I was late commuting to work and hit the market just as the noontime crowd was beginning to flow in.
It’s a completely different crowd than one sees at the market in my neighborhood. The shoppers are either visitors to downtown, or people who work in the nearby office buildings. The market tents, the colorful produce arrayed under their awnings, and the costumes of the shoppers enliven the Plaza’s heavy modernist setting.
At this market, vendors do not sell food prepared to eat on the spot. It would be absolutely wonderful/so mobbed if it did.

Maybe I’ll see you! That would be fun.

It must be nice for employees in the nearby offices to come by and get something fresh for their dinners that night.

Especially people who live in areas (including suburbs) that don’t have their own farmers’ markets. I used to work near the Museum of Contemporary Art, shop at the weekly market there, and then carry my farm produce home with me on the el. . . .
