An evening-long power outage proved the adequacy of the generator Mr C had insisted we install.
Power outages are romantic when one can still cook dinner, run hot water, and refrigerate food.

Mr. C says
Ah yes, Mr C was very smart to have that generator installed. It’s like a type of insurance, knowing the house always has a secure backup source of electricity. Many people don’t realize that every type of furnace relies on electricity to run; the automatic ignition system needs it. Same with a gas stove and oven.
Celia says
A modern house without power can quickly become inhabitable. It’s good to have a strategy to get through power outages, particularly ones that affect the entire town or an even larger region. In the most recent storm (just a few weeks ago), the wind knocked out the power to 1400 homes.
