I enjoyed seeing this sleeping heron while at the North Pond in Lincoln Park the other day. Its eyes are bright red, which is how I know it was catching forty winks.

My husband gave me a Nikon P500, which I often carry with me on walks, and which is great for taking pictures of animals without getting too close. In this case, the bird was actually fairly close to me, and luckily asleep–I love the herons!
