Yesterday being fine, Mr C dragged me out for a walk through the Lincoln Park Zoo. It’s amazing to have a free zoo nearby. Sometimes I walk through in the morning and am the only one to hear the lions roaring.
Yesterday the sea-lion was particularly thrilling to see. What pity I felt was overwhelmed by my awe of its marvelous shape, its enormous eyes, its grace while swimming. Is it wrong, to render captive this creature which brings such joy?

Once in a while I get to that zoo, and on a good day, have actually seen the sea lions playing.

It would be fun to see them playing together. I saw two seals the other day, but not together.

An additional note on the sea-lion exhibit: it’s one of the zoo’s oldest features, having first opened in 1879! It was rehabbed and improved a couple of years ago and is now known as the Kovler Sea Lion Pool.
