There were tiny yellow and burgundy orchids. Large orchids with tiny maroon spots stippling them. Hot-pink orchids with purple velvet throats. Pansy orchids with enormous limp blossoms bolted with lilac centers. Pale yellow orchids with hot-pink veins. And these lovelies, with buttery-edged white petals, blotted with various drops of mauve and maroon, and a blaze of gold in the center.
Now is the time to visit the Orchid House in the Lincoln Park Conservatory. The spring flower show is on, offering a dazzling display of orchids and bromeliads in bloom.

I too was there over the weekend and yes, and yes again, the orchid room was gorgeous! The “spring flower” room was also very well done and smelled ever so nice. I visit that conservatory from time to time and on this visit I found it to be in the best shape I think it ever has been in. Hopefully it received some city bucks. I urge all the folks who visit Celia to go to the conservatory while those two show rooms are in full climax mode.

The spring flower show was written up in the Tribune over the weekend–it was great to see so many visitors crowding in to appreciate the flowers. I agree that the conservatory is looking unusually ‘spruce’–either better maintenance, better funding, or perhaps a windfall in the form of many plants brought over from the Garfield Park conservatory (Its fern room is being gut-renovated.) I have never seen the place looking so lush and luxuriant. I love the heavy warm air of the Palm Room–
And the experience is free.
Check it out! Thanks, Harley–
