I feel at home in Seattle without really knowing the city. It’s because we always stay in the same place and do the same things while we’re in town: eat in the hotel, shop for clothes, and visit family. I stay and write in the hotel room when we’re not doing one of those things. I go for a swim in the hotel pool every once in a while. Getting to know a few things deeply, and renouncing the quest for novelty, is oddly satisfying.
