Autumn is late in coming to the Midwest this year. When we were at the Dunes, just a few leaves from the cottonwood trees had changed color and fallen.
When there are just a few leaves, each one can be noticed, their crispness and beautiful color studied.
Some looked to be composed of metal, nearly.
Each Nature endowed with complexity. I marveled at the look of all these veins, and the useless stem, still so sturdy.
Some lay on a bed composed of stone from the Lake.
The stones gave the leaves a run for the money.
Stick figures running down the Dune looked insignificant, their hilarity silent, as they careened joyfully from top to bottom.
A bed of sand makes a nice place to lie.
Going further on, we saw a lone mushroom poking up. End of story.

A nice “study” of the leaves; worth contemplating over. As always your captions were nice to read; very calming. . . . The picture of that huge sand dune with the figures running down it was great !

It was the last summery afternoon, before the true onset of fall.
