   Happy late wishes for you too! This is a wonderful image. I love the reflections. Here is a link to the Library of Congress recordings that were published to commemorate the bicentennial of the American Revolution. http://tinyurl.com/o9swgbo I, too, feel reflective on this holiday.

     Thank you, George, for the audio link. I adore folk music! (And the Library of Congress!)

     Would be lovely if the day were still an occasion for orations, I think. Who knows what we might hear?

     I used to fantasize about having a “Mend the Flag” party on Independence Day, at which each guest would be asked to read something expressive of their feelings toward their country. I’m sure it could get pretty emotional!

     Yes, I loved how those two, in particular, wandered by just as I was snapping pictures of the flag. It was nearly a month ago–a subtle, urban, Fourth of July tableau. . . . The buildings sort of encapsulate different aspects of Chicago. The one on the left is the Marquette Building, commemorating the area’s French exploration; the one on the right is a Mies van der Rohe building, a modernist reminder of immigrant contributions to Chicago. And the Citadel, in the center, is the headquarters of a leading hedge fund/investment firm–where all the economic energy seems to be going now. . . . Who knows what it will be like when that kid grows up. . . .
