The North Avenue beach house is defiantly jaunty amid winter’s grey light and treacherous incrustations. Summer’s monument, the cruise-liner telegraphs to us, not an SOS, but the joy and innocence of summers past and to come.

I’ve driven past that old house many, many times. In my younger years, it was decrepit-looking, but, as of the last ten years or so, it looks a lot better. I think North Ave beach is most popular among the very late teens or early 20s folks.

Harley, yes–it does seem to be one of the most popular beaches, perhaps because of all the beach volleyball, which is something to see. Next summer, I want to go and photograph the volleyball scene at night. As you probably know, it’s amazing.
In true Chicago fashion, there seems to be little information on the web about this remarkable beachhouse. I wonder who designed it?
