I like the festive shades of a summer street.
During much of the year, our downtown streets have a drab, utilitarian, uninviting feel. So it was refreshing to look out from the landing of the elevated station, to see busy old Wabash bathed in pastel shades, awnings and lintels bright like something out of a Prendergast painting, with even a flag.

The street does look inviting with the green trees. Amazing how a tree changes our outlook! 🙂

So true; Chicago has been planted up at great expense, and that has greatly enhanced the quality of everyday life. Without the parks and gardens, the city would scarcely be inhabitable. Not even its great buildings would save it. As it is, I savor the season!

Nice photograph–the man carrying the Macy’s bag with the big red star is what caught my eye first……….And yes, the old street does look better in the summer.

Everyone relaxes, and that is so pleasing to see!

thanks, Rob–good to hear from you. So often the “L” (elevated train) gets in the way of photographing our downtown streets; it’s fun when it happens to make it easier. . . the city would be dramatically different if we could bury the el underground, like the other trains. . . .
