A commuter waits for the el at mid-day. The snow and cold have been unrelenting. Thank goodness for the heat lamps in the platform shelters–without them, the wait for a train would be unbearable indeed.

I imagine that, on those horrid cold days we had, those heat lamps were used a lot and much appreciated. I’ve taken the “L” during the winter in previous decades and, of course, back then there were no heat lamps. . . . By the by, if you ever get the chance, not too far from that platform is an Al’s Italian Beef place at Sheffield and Clark.

The shelters and heaters are essential because up there on the platforms the wind can be cruel.
